Professor of Law, Federal University of Paraíba Fields: Art and cultural heritage disputes Marcílio Franca is a pioneer name in the field of Art Law in Latin America, with many scholarly books, articles, conferences and press interventions on diverse aspects of the art market. Currently, he is an arbitrator in the World Intellectual Property Organization Arbitration and Mediation Center (WIPO, Geneva/Singapore) and in the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA, Rotterdam). Former arbitrator in the MERCOSUR Tribunal (Asunción). He is Professor of Public Law at the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB, Brazil) and Prosecutor General at the Prosecution Office at the Audit Court of Paraíba (MPC, Brazil), where he chairs the Task-Force on Cultural Heritage Protection. He was Visiting Professor in Turin, Pisa and Ghent, Research Fellow at the Collegio Carlo Alberto (CCA, Turin) and Calouste Gulbenkian Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI, Florence). Ph.D. in Comparative Law (University of Coimbra). Member of the Executive Council of the International Law Association (ILA, London), of the Associazione Italo-Brasiliana dei Professori di Diritto Amministrativo e Costituzionale (AIBDAC) and of the Instituto Hispano- Luso-Americano de Derecho Internacional (IHLADI). Former student (Gasthörer) at the Free University of Berlin (Germany), visiting trainee at the Court of Justice of the European Union (Luxembourg), Senior Legal Advisor of the United Nations Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL) and World Bank Consultant (PFMCBP/Timor).
